hello! i’m here with a long delayed newsletter about art i’ve been making. i wish this didn’t take so long to put together and share, but unfortunately summer of 2025 was less than awesome, and in the midst of my stability going to shambles, remembering to keep up with my newsletter has been hard! going forward, i’m going to tentatively plan to post on a more quarterly basis rather than monthly - here’s hoping i can stick to that in the seasons to come! i’ve also moved this newsletter to a new platform, and i’m still ironing out some wrinkles in this new program (why won’t my old posts import?!?) but nothing really changes on your end as a reader :-)

great blue heron for august

coot for september!

raven for october

barn owl for november
what notably didn’t suck about my summer was the summer wheel-throwing course i took at my local pottery studio. i’ve taken wheel classes once before in college, and all i have to show for it was a handful of dinky mugs that shrunk far too much in the kiln to be usable for anything. i’m proud to say that this time, i accounted for shrinkage and got a lot better at throwing! i really want to make more pottery in the future, and experiment with more funky shapes, as well as improve my consistency and make more practical pieces. i gave away a couple pieces before i did this sunny photoshoot, so this is most of my finished pieces from this summer:

wonky plant pot

lil bowl!

funky bowl <3

the result of an unintended wax drip that i patiently accepted and then rerouted my design to be negative space stripes instead.

funky cup with glaze that unintentionally turned out like swirling coffee and cream

beloved mug #1

and beloved mug #2
i’ve also continued to be a knitting machine this year, and have been absolutely cranking out the projects since august. i made…. a double-knit horse tapestry for my good friend as a birthday gift (gave me brief tendonitis - worth it!!).

a scrap yarn kermit collar with my amassed collection of light green yarn (pattern by nonbin crafts)

loose ends and unblocked

ready for my kermit costume!!
a wool cable sweater with yarn i dyed myself - which was quite the undertaking but it didn’t take me nearly as long as i thought. once i finished dying the yarn, knitting this pattern (oksusu sweater by berryknitting) took me 25 days. i should really start calculating hours spent on projects!!

my first time dying wool was a success - and my roommates cat enjoyed it too. i used dharma acid dye, specifically a diluted mix of chartreuse and lichen, on Plymouth Yarn Hearty Homestead Tweed in their natural undyed colorway

and from the back
a golden yellow vest with 100% mohair i scored from an antique store for super cheap. this is my first project with buttons and i’m pretty pleased with it! (calidez vest by jenjoyce design)

finished ribbing on the first day

this mohair yarn is so plush, it feels like wearing a hug
and the project i most recently finished is my scrappy stripey cardigan (pattern by loupystudio), made with my various purple/green/brown yarns, plus some extra funky yarns. i love scrap projects!!!

funky buttons from my friend sunny

i did end up buying a couple skeins of yarn to finish this, so much for it being a scrap-buster!
in addition to new projects, somewhere within myself i stirred up the motivation to attend to some pieces in need of repair or that i wanted frogged, including a striped wool hat i started last winter and abandoned, and a pair of wool handwarmers that grew a hole in the ribbing. hooray for fixing up projects! i also un-made a tanktop that i made earlier this year - as soon as i finished it i knew i didn’t enjoy wearing it but it took a while for me to feel ok about destroying it. now i have some linen yarn to try something new with :-)
that’s all for my august-thru-october project roundup!! life has been weird/sad/busy/stressful lately, but i always find time to knit at least and i will certainly be back with more finished projects in the not too distant future <3
nice things as of late —— poke bowls, miso broth, watching a lot of E.R., finding weird mushrooms, volunteering with cats, dan and phil, costco croissants, cicadas, cold weather so i can finally wear my wool knits, dancing for hours with people i don’t know, new houseplants, torn by COBRAH, and pumpkin coffee.
xx - august
